Washington Spa Alliance Calls on Capital Hill
History was made in Washington, DC, when the Washington Spa Alliance (WSPA) gathered for its 5th Annual Symposium at the National Press Club on March 17th. Thank you to the organizers and participants for creating a historic moment in Spa history. A few take aways for the Caribbean Spa Association:
A few take aways for the Caribbean Spa Association:
1) Dr. Peeke technology is rapidly expanding and moving into a touch space. Genetics are the gun, epigenetics pull the trigger. How can you embrace it in your spa?
2) Corbetts at Hills Health Spa: develop the people around you, hire local and train, train, train.
3) Corbetts: stick to your beliefs, at the start refused polish manis because of the formaldehyde.
4) Corbetts: government is here to work for you and it's your duty to ensure they do, not vice versa.
5) Spa Finder Trends: companies are getting creative with their on site health benefits for all types of workers.
6) ISPA is 25, happy birthday! Launched a new website, expanding global outreach including the annual industry study.
7) GSN will launch free spa benefits and rolling out international regional chapters.
8) We are water! Health benefits surrounding Geothermal Hotsprings are impressive, we have the studies to back it up from the Global Wellness Institute.
9) Regional associations serve a purpose and are here to stay. Organizers from throughout the country united to share their success stories.
10) The original innovators in Spa are still here. They're aligning a wellness movement that will be beneficial for our nation & future generations. Shelia Cluff and Deborah Sekely lead the charge on Capital Hill.
A closing message from WSPA's Co-founder, Mary F. Bemis:
„WSPA's mission supports the spa community's interdisciplinary approach to advancing all avenues to wellbeing. It includes creating alliances and collaborations with like-minded individuals and organizations. And it encompasses political advocacy, as well. WSPA's foray into the latter began in 2012 when we participated in Spafinder's first Wellness Week visit to Capitol Hill. It evolved to this month's WSPA meetings w/seven members of Congress to discuss how the spa community can support initiatives that are designed to advance the nation's health and wellbeing. Going forward, WSPA will define and support specific wellbeing initiatives and will continue to collaborate with allied organizations, such as Deborah Szekely's Wellness Warriors, to help foster a healthier America.“
