The Turks & Caicos Hotel and Tourism Association (TCHTA), presents the 1st annual ‘TCI WELLNESS Week’, in partnership with Caribbean Wellness & Education (WE)
Hot on the heels of Caribbean Tourism Organization announcing 2018 as “The Year of Wellness and Rejuvenation in the Caribbean”, TCHTA presents the 1st Annual “TCI Wellness Week”. The week will kick-off in the centrally located Salt Mills Plaza in Providenciales, from 1-5 pm, on Saturday, October 13th 2018. The day will be free for residents and tourists alike!
Activities will include Soca-robics, yoga, health screens by Turks & Caicos National Health, activities for the kids, a fashion show, local music and so much more! After the impact from two category 5 hurricanes, Turks & Caicos has quickly mobilized and is open for the busy tourist season. “Following an intense few months of weathering storms and rebuilding, many of our residents still find themselves impacted by the storms”, said Stacy Cox, CEO of the TCHTA, “With our Wellness Week, we will bring together tourists and residents in our first voluntourism experience”.
TCHTA is incorporating their local members in the fair with table-top displays and activities to showcase the offerings that the Turks & Caicos Islands is the “Wellness Destination in the Caribbean”. Members will go on to host special wellness activities and offerings throughout the week. The event will also provide space for IGA gift cards, where persons can donate to ‘Food for Thought’, a charity that aims to ensure children are nourished with breakfast to lead happy, healthy, and prosperous lives.
The week will coincide with the islands’ 10th annual ‘In The Pink’. The island’s breast cancer awareness event continues to grow in popularity raising funds for the National Cancer Society of TCI (NCS). Held at the Palms Resort each year, gently used clothing donations are collected and sold in VIP Penthouses to raise funds to support the NCS. Karen Whitt, VP of Marketing & Branding for the Hartling Group and Organizer of Pink, continue to raise the bar each year. The event now includes a poker tournament, silent auction and grand party in the Palm’s Courtyard. Whitt had this to say, “The amount of persons’ living with Cancer continue to grow in the Turks & Caicos Islands, as does the support of our event” and “we believe by adding a wellness element to this year’s event we can change some of the lifestyle habits of our community, focusing on prevention”.
Partnering with Caribbean Wellness & Education (WE), they will also encourage tourists to ‘Pack for a Purpose’ to support the island’s children and schools. “Having lived in the Turks & Caicos Islands (TCI) for 4 years, I still have a commitment to working with schools as a Kiwanian of the Providenciales Chapter for 6 years”, said Stephanie Rest, Founder of WE. She went on to say, “In many ways, the TCI still feels like home and this is an opportunity to make a positive difference for people, business’ and the planet.”
Committed to the region, Rest was recently appointed as the Caribbean Regional Director for the "Global Mentorship Program" and also serves as the Vice-chair to the ‘Global Wellness for Children Initiative’ for the Global Wellness Institute. She is beginning her 3rd term as the Caribbean Ambassador of Global Wellness Day, celebrated by over 100 countries.
“Our hope is that this model will be one that we can easily replicate for all the islands” said Rest, “In-combining tourism with a humanitarian return, we are creating transformational travel experiences and that ripple effect will have a profound impact on our region.”
